Louis Gossett Jr. (1936-2024) won an Emmy for his role in the 1977 television mini series Roots as the fiddle-playing enslaved worker who is supposed to teach the new enslaved field worker and lead character Kunta Kinte.
In the 2016 remake of Roots, Fiddler was played by Forest Whitaker.
