Smackaree

Unspecified fictional instrument used in the bombastic symphony (opus 8421) by composer/conductor Horridnoise, in the far flung future of 1995, from the satirical review "The Symphony in 1995," published in 1885, in music magazine The Etude, November 1885 (Volume 03, Number 11).

While it is not describes, we surmise based on the "smack" part of the name, that it is a percussion instrument of some kind.

All is now smooth; the air is but just vibrating with one little note on a single violin.

But listen!

Horridnoise lifts his baton!

A wild note on the smackaree is heard!!!

Then two!!!

Then two more!!!!!

Then a rumbling of 326 bass-viols, followed by a shriek of 740 steam-whistles!!!!!!

His symphony has 154 movements, takes ten full days to complete, 5,240 musicians to play, and uses no less than eight fictional instruments, perhaps a record.
