Failed opera singer turned "crystal singer" introduced in Anne McCaffrey's 1974 sci-fi short story "Prelude to a Crystal Song." McCaffrey expanded upon Ree's story in subsequent short stories that were the basis of The Crystal Singer (1982), a young-adult novel. Ree's story continued in Killashandra (1986) and Crystal Line (1992).
