He is a stagehand at Olgood Hall where aspiring concert violinist Dede Fleming has come to play. She befriends him, encourages his composing and they fall in love, to the dismay of her teacher Professor Stern.
When her most recent concert is a big flop, she thinks she has to dump him to succeed, but then fate intervenes when his nocturne is accepted to be played at Olgood Hall. They play it together.
