He's in need of a new vocalist, and tries out aspiring singer Ellen Delaney. She's not what Kipp is looking for, but Kipp's pianist Roy Davis sees something in her, and convinces her to let him coach her. He even quits Kipp's band! Delaney and Davis go onto get married and have success.
Presumably, Kipp and his band suffered the declining fortunes of all big bands as musical tastes changed.
