Hoax band created in 1969 by Rolling Stone rock critic Greil Marcus in a review of their self-titled double bootleg album. Supposedly the band was a super-group featuring Bob Dylan, Mick Jagger, George Harrison, John Lennon and Paul McCartney (poor Ringo). After the review got the buzz started, Reprise/Deity released the album. Real band The Cleanliness and Godliness Skiffle Band provided the music. To deepen the parody, "Deity Records" was a one-off label created just for the joke. Oh, you crazy music industry people.
