The Imperial Grand Ministers of Funk

On their acclaimed fourth album, Apocalypse 91...The Enemy Strikes Black, Public Enemy's sound shifted slightly as the Bomb Squad transitioned to executive producers. This meant that much of the production work was handled by the four Imperial Grand Ministers of Funk: Stuart Robertz, Cerwin "C-Dawg” Depper, The JBL, and Gary "G-Wiz” Rinaldo. Or, in reality, by Rinaldo, since Robertz, Depper, and JBL were all fictitious. According to Russell Myrie's Don't Rhyme for the Sake of Riddlin': The Authorized Story of Public Enemy, Rinaldo did all the production except for two songs, but since he was fairly unknown at the time they added the other names to make the production team appear fuller (176).
