Aging rock quintet appearing briefly in the "Covercraft" episode of long-running animated comedy The Simpsons (first aired 23 Nov. 2014). Sungazer are known primarily for their 1980s power ballad "Hopin' for a Dream." After their lead singer, Grant LeDavid, dies of some form of erotic asphyxiation (our money's on "auto-"), they hire Covercraft vocalist Apu Nahasapeemapetilon for their "Last Final Hell Re-Freezes Over Ultimate Goodbye For Serious This Time Never Again Part Two of ??? Tour." (Yeah, it's more or less a rough parody of Journey hiring Arnel Pineda as their new vocalist, with some INXS thrown in.) The band includes:

  • Freddy Freeman
  • Shredder Stevens
  • Nick Delacourt
  • Peter D'Abbruzio
  • Grant LeDavid (R.I.P.)/Apu Nahasapeemapetilon

Fun fact: very real musician Matthew Sweet wrote the music for their hit, "Hopin' for a Dream."
