British comedian Norman Wisdom plays this worker-cum-singer in the 1959 British film Follow a Star.
A big fan of fading singing star Vernon Carew, Norm sings one of Vern's songs, get discovered by the powers-that-be, who then get the idea to put out a record under Carew's name with Truscott's vocals. Yeah, it's very similar to the plot of Singin' in the Rain.
