George Arliss played this classical pianist in the 1932 sound remake of the 1922 silent film The Man Who Played God. After being deafened by a bomb and learning to lip-read, he gives up his musical career and his fiancée in favor of helping people.

Fun fact: This was was Bette Davis's first starring role.

Boris Karloff played the character in "The Man Who Played God" episode (4/25/1957) of drama television series Lux Video Theatre.

In the 1922 film, the pianist is named Montgomery Royle.
