One of the many fictional jazz outfits created by DJ/producer Madlib in the 2000s. The releases by these 'bands' on Stones Throw Records often looked and sounded as if they were vintage and discovered in a second-hand record store, with pre-printed ringwear on the cover and pre-recorded vinyl crackling in between songs. The 2004 album of Monk Hughes And The Outer Realm, "A Tribute To Brother Weldon", is dedicated to the actual musician Weldon Irvine (1943-2002). Drummer in Monk Hughes And The Outer Realm is Otis Jackson Jr., the most obvious alias for Madlib, since that's his birth name.

Line-up

  • Monk Hughes - bass, electric space piano
  • Otis Jackson Jr. - drums, loops, kalimba
  • Joe McDuphrey - piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano, Arp synthesizer
  • Morgan Adams III - organ, Moog synthesizer, percussion
