Created by Wilhelm Heinrich Wackenroder (1773-1798) in the short piece "Das merkwürdige musikalische Leben des Tonkünstlers Joseph Berglinger" ("The Strange musical life of the composer Joseph Berglinger"), from his 1797 collection Herzensergiessungen eines kunstliebenden Klosterbruders (Outpourings of an Art-Loving Monk).
