"One of the greatest pianists of the bop era to come out of this region" in the 2009 young adult novel Struts & Frets by Jon Skovron, set in Columbus, Ohio.

He played the 1966 Newport Jazz Festival where his improvised on "Stormy Weather." Grandfather of protagonist Sammy Bojar.
