From Norman Spinrad's 1987 sci-fi novel Little Heroes. A virtual rock star, or AP (artificial personality) created by record company Muzik, Inc. Only mentioned in passing.

"What do you want from me, Billy?" Glorianna asked. "You know how I feel about AP rock stars. It'll never work."

"But it does work!" Billy insisted. "I got here proving it, didn't I? We're shipping respectable numbers on Lady Leather and Gay Bruce and the Velvet Cat and even Mucho Muchacho, and nobody outside the industry even believes the rumors that they're APs. I just haven't been able to come up with a big hit, is all. You just don't want to believe that we can synthesize a major league rock star."
