Jazz marimba player arriving late to a gig in the short story "The King of Jazz" by Donald Barthelme. It first appeared in The New Yorker, January 30, 1977.

He arrives in the middle of a jazz battle between "king of jazz" Hokie Mokie and new guy Hideo Yamaguchi.
