Maraca player from, duh, Cuba, from the song "Cuban Pete," written in 1936 by Englishman Joe "José" Norman, the man who introduced the rumba to England.

Bandleader Desi Arnaz starred in a 1946 film called "Cuban Pete," with the song, changing it from third person to first person.

Louis Armstrong released a version in 1937.

Desi Arnaz later performed it as Ricky Ricardo on sitcom I Love Lucy on October 29, 1951.

The tune had a resurgence when it was featured prominently in the 1994 comedy film The Mask.
