Champ Commit the Sins2.jpg

Jazz musician from the racy 1961 novel *Commit the Sins* by William A Austin. Protagonist Patsy, ostensibly a lesbian, is attracted to him and is conflicted, because bi wasn't a thing yet.

Blurb: “In the colored footlights, Champ was apart from other musicians. He was vibrant, moving nervously back and forth in the confined space. The shadows on his face accentuated his craggy features and looked like the personification of evil – dark, forbidding, magnetic.”

Champ says, "You're not queer, Patsy. You're just lonely." Ugh.
