He's a boarder at the home of Maris Brown and her mom and lousy stepdad. Their other boarder, Barty, keeps harassing Maris to go out with him, but she and Chad fall in love and want to get married. But Barty and her stepdad conspire to steal Chad's money, and Maris has to agree to marry Barty to get it back. But it all works out in the end.
