This 2006 book by Rohan Kriwaczek is fiction masquerading as fact, but not masquerading too hard. The hoax volume describes an entire fictional musical genre and a secret Guild of Funerary Violinists.
A 2009 novel, The Poison Garden by Sarah Singleton borrows the idea with an acknowledgement.
