Nineteen fifties rocker and father of main character drama professor Theodore Ryan in the 1991 novel Foolscap by Michael Malone.

His father had traveled the entire country by bus more than a dozen times, singing his two gold record hits, "Prom Queen" and "Do the Duck." Benny Ryan had been a minor teenage idol, and in 1957 had made it all the way to number 3 on the rock and roll charts with "Do the Duck," which had started a short-lived dance craze.
